The Federal Trade Commission is the government entity responsible for protecting consumers against unfair or misleading advertising and marketing practices.  You can find more information on the responsibilities of online marketers at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/ecommerce/bus28.shtm.  There is also a link on that page to an 83 page document called “Dot com Disclosures”.

The entire subsection relating to advertising and marketing can be summarized as:

Advertising must tell the truth and not mislead consumers.
In addition, claims must be substantiated.

As someone who provides information to consumers, that just seems like good business practice to me, but I understand that there are those who will always try to find the loopholes and push the boundaries of any rule or law.  So here is my disclosure.

There are various types of links on this website: my recommendations, vendor links, and product feeds.

My Recommendations:

I will conspicuously mark any product or vendor that I personally recommend, and tell you why.  You are more than welcome to contact me for additional information on anything I recommend.  In fact, I encourage it.  I would never wish for anyone to end up with a product that did not fit their needs based on my advice.  I am not trying to mislead anyone into buying anything.

Vendor Links:

These may be text links or graphical banners.  They will usually be an obvious advertisement.  I am very careful about the vendors I promote here.  Only suppliers I have used or would use if needed make it into my list.

Product Feeds:

Many of my preferred vendors and suppliers provide an automatic product feed.  This allows them to post their latest deals, bargains, and sales directly into this website.  It is absolutely impossible for me to evaluate and verify every single item posted in this manner.  If you have any concerns over the validity of claims made by  any vendor in any listing, please notify me immediately.  I will remove the product pending clarification and substantiation from the vendor.

When you purchase products and services by following links on this website, I will generally receive some form of commission, referral fee, or other remuneration.  I do not, however, promote products or vendors based strictly on that.  When I find a vendor or product that I feel is worthy of inclusion on this site, I will attempt to arrange some sort of affiliate agreement.  I am in business to support my wife and kids after all.  But I only promote vendors I have used or would recommend to my local clients, friends or family.

I have attempted to comply with the newest FTC regulations without getting overly legalistic or confusing.  I am an honest businessman who enjoys helping people fulfill their technology needs.  If you have any concerns whatsoever about doing business with me, following any of my recommendations, or purchasing anything through one of my links, I encourage you to contact me before doing so.
